Transition from concrete Base 10 blocks to pictorial number bonds. What's 56+6? Think of 6 as 4 and 2. Since 56+4 = 60 and 60+2 = 62, 56+6 = 62. When ready, progress from drawing a number bond, to mentally visualizing a number in parts. What's 48+7? Visualize 7 as 2 and 5. Add to 2 to make 50, then add 5 to get 55.
