Getting Started
 
Welcome to the Tang Math 2024 Halloween Tournament! This contest is open to all grades K-5 students and requires no entry to participate. In order for progress to be saved and for prize eligibility, students must be logged in to a Tang Math account (either a classroom account or their own student account) while participating in any tournament events. How to Play
 
There are 3 types of puzzles included in the tournament: Kakooma, NumTanga and Number Buddies. Each time that you complete a puzzle, 1 point will be added to your class score (must be logged in or using a class code) and 1 point will be added to your individual student score if you are logged in as a student. Each puzzle will allow up to 2 incorrect attemps before reshuffling itself.

Game 1: Kakooma
Find the number bond (or fact family) in each mini-puzzle. When a number bond is identified, click on each of the three numbers that make up that number bond. The game is won when all the mini-puzzles have been solved.

Game 2: NumTanga
Find the match between each pair of adjacent cards. When a match is found between cards A and B, click on the matching values − one from card A and one from card B. The game is won when all matches have been found.

Prizes & Certificates
 
Two types of prizes will be awarded for this tournament: one for classes and the other for individual students. The top 10 classes with the highest total scores (listed on the Class Leaderboard above) will win a free pizza party! The top student in each grade level (listed below) will receive a free gift box of games! Tang Math will contact all eligible prize winners at the end of the tournament via their account email.

What is the Tang Math Tournament Contest?
The Tang Math Tournament Contest is a regional mathematics competition designed for students in grades K-6. It offers a variety of engaging math games to improve students' skills in a competitive environment.
 
What are the primary objectives of the Tang Math Tournament Contest?
The main objectives are to: enhance students' math skills through practice, create a fun & competitive environment for mathematics, and enable students to benchmark their skills against peers across different regions.
 
Who is eligible to participate in the contest?
The contest is open to all students and classes from kindergarten through 6th grade.
 
When is the contest scheduled?
The contest runs for one week during the month of October. Specific dates will be announced prior to the event.
 
Is there a registration fee?
No, participation in the contest is free of charge.
 
How do participants enter the contest?
To enter the contest, participants must: vist TangMath.com/tournament, enter their class code, choose a difficulty level, click "Play" to begin.
 
How is scoring conducted?
Participants earn one point for each correctly solved problem. Scores are automatically calculated and recorded in real-time. The leaderboards display high scores for individual games and overall class performance.
 
Is there a limit to how many games a student or class can play?
There is no limit to the number of game attempts a student or class can make during the contest week.
 
Is a Tang Math subscription required to participate?
No, the contest is accessible to all, including non-subscribers, free account users, and Tang Math subscribers.
 
What are the technical requirements for participation?
Participants require access to an internet browser on any device, such as a computer or tablet.
 
How can educators or parents monitor student progress?
The leaderboard is prominently displayed on the tangmath.com/tournament page. Educators and parents can check at any time to see their class's standing.
 
What is the policy on fair play and cheating?
The Tang Math Tournament Contest maintains a strict policy of fair play. All participants, including students, educators, and parents, must adhere to the principles of academic honesty. Any form of cheating or foul play will result in disqualification. Prohibited activities include: unauthorized collaboration on individual challenges, use of prohibited external resources, deliberate manipulation of the scoring system. Any actions that provide unfair advantage or compromise the integrity of the competition. We emphasize personal growth and enjoyment of the learning experience over unfair competitive advantages.

To report any instance of suspected cheating or unfair play, contact the Tang Math Tournament organizers immediately through the provided contact information on the tournament website. All reports are treated confidentially and investigated thoroughly.
