Transition to finding equivalent fractions with fewer equal parts. 4 sixths is how many thirds? Draw 6 sixths on a number line and color 4 sixths. How many thirds is it? Since sixths are half the size of thirds, 2/6 = 1/3 and 4/6 = 2/3. Shortcut? Divide numerator and denominator by 2. Get 1/2 as many pieces that are 2 times the size.
