Perimeter & Area Word Problems: Part III 5-83
Transition from finding a rectangle's area to finding its perimeter. If the long side is twice the short side and area is 98, what's the perimeter? Partition the rectangle into 2 squares – each with area 98 ÷ 2 = 49. Since the sides are all 7, the rectangle's short side is also 7, the long side is 14, and the perimeter is 2 x 21 = 42.
